Induction tubes – 2 different ones

Item nr. 081 Category
The CMA Induction Tube Set consists of a transparent plastic tube with coils, an aluminum tube with coils, and a set of small magnets. The tubes are 1 meter long and have six identical induction coils at exactly the same positions on both tubes. The coils are connected in series.

Description

When a magnet (included) falls into a tube, a voltage is induced in the coils as it passes through. This induced voltage can be measured using two 4 mm contact sockets.

The induction tubes can be used in physics experiments about induction and electromagnetism:

  • To measure the voltage induced by the falling magnet
  • To determine the change in magnetic flux in coils
  • To investigate the relationship between the induced voltage and the velocity of the magnet
  • To determine the distance between the magnet’s poles
  • To illustrate magnetic braking (in the aluminum tube)
  • To investigate the terminal velocity of the magnet falling through the aluminum tube

More information can be found in the induction tubes manual, see downloads.
